THE STORY THUS FAR: the second episode of the amnesia arc was hilarious but ended predictably, sakamoto sent gin-san some carpenters to help rebuild odd jobs, in a one and a half-parter shinpachi got a crush and then didn’t get laid, and matsudaira tried to murder his daughter’s boyfriend

This episode opens up in a cheerful way as Otae and one of her coworkers come across a new girl at their club as she’s about to commit suicide.

The new girl tells Otae that she came to Edo to be a dancer, only to get swindled out of all her money by an obvious scam. Otae yells at her for being a gullible idiot, then promises that she will [force Gin-san to] help her out.

The Odd Jobs crew + Otae infiltrates the obvious cult behind the obvious scam, and the cult leader manages to win Gin-san and Kagura over quite easily by granting their wishes for “silky hair” and “rice with a mountain of seaweed tsukudani”.

Otae confesses to Shinpachi that helping Hanako get her money back is secondary to robbing the cult leader blind and rebuilding their dojo, so the three of them set out to do just that.

Gin-san and Kagura figure out that Hamu has likely enlisted the help of a ninja to do his Dream Catcher bit, and we get our (unofficial) introduction to Zenzo Hattori, Gin’s ninja doppelganger with a chronic case of the runs. They expose the scam, Hattori runs off, and Hammy gets thrown to a mob of angry former believers.

This episode was pretty meh. It was enjoyable enough, but there was nothing particularly funny in it and the action wasn’t that great. Hattori’s early-bird cameo is just about the only noteworthy thing about it.

Next episode is a two parter featuring Santa for the first part and more Hattori for the second. Till next time.
