i have a sneaking suspicion gin-san has never played mahjong before
THE STORY THUS FAR: kagura pulled a tom sawyer (minus the fake funeral) and then elizabeth got arrested, the go-ninja attempted to break elizabeth out of jail, sadaharu had a growth spurt, otae and ane competed to see which of them would keep her job, odd jobs got a new neighbor and the subtitler revealed a lack of familiarity with the terms “sleep paralysis” and “hay fever”, and finally, gin-san and hijikata fought over stupid shit and odd jobs played kick the can with an old man
In this episode, Gin-san and Hasegawa go to a casino. It ends poorly.
After losing everything down to the clothes on their backs in the first 30 seconds after the title screen, they’re approached by a pro gambler who gives them their clothes back. After they immediately lose them again, he tells them to go home.
From there, Gin-san and Hasegawa discover that the pro gambler has been cheating. You’d think if he was lucky enough to find the only casino in existence that lets you use your own cards and dice he wouldn’t need to cheat, but as this is a comedy, all characters are only as lucky as humor allows.
Even though Kanbe was the only one cheating, security drags all three of them before the casino owner because plot, and she offers them the chance to get away scot free by playing a game of mahjong against a pro who probably also cheats.
Shenanigans ensue, everyone gets naked, and it all comes down to one last game. The mahjong pro tries to cheat, but Hasegawa manages to win anyway while the other three are having a naked showdown. Having learned absolutely nothing, the episode ends with Gin-san and Hasegawa back in their underwear.
This was a good episode. We got to see Gin-san in a suit. Gin-san looks good in a suit.
This episode was the end of the first season, so it didn’t have a preview for the next episode. Till next time.
