when watching pretty girl samurai please make sure the room is well lit and do not sit too close to the screen
THE STORY THUS FAR: the odd jobs crew were hired to stand in line for a new video game console, odd jobs+zura compete against the shinsengumi for an owee, and gin-san gave a crash course in shonen manga to a struggling manga editor
Gintama’s third year is underway, and it’s time to start another story arc. However first, a new year means a new OP and ED, and these two I have no thoughts about. I watched them last night before going to bed and don’t remember a thing about them, except that the OP starts with Gin-san and Shinpachi on the scooter, like every other OP thus far.
This episode focuses on Hijikata dealing with a cursed sword that he borrowed against the advice of its owner and is now making him act like a stereotypical otaku, all while having to deal with an obvious asshole who’s trying to take over the Shinsengumi.
There have been a few episodes where Gin-san basically just had a cameo, but I think this is the first episode where he doesn’t appear at all. His absence wasn’t as distracting as having him make an appearance just for the sake of showing up would’ve been, and it seems he’ll be playing an active role starting next episode, but it still seemed worth mentioning.
This arc seems like it’s gonna be a good’n. I’ve been feeling a great deal of second-hand embarrassment for poor Hijikata and his otaku curse, but it’s still pretty funny so I don’t mind too much. As popular is Ito seems to be amongst the Shinsengumi, you’d think he’d be a less obvious antagonist, but since he’s supposedly the one who deals with the political side of things, him being a dick isn’t exactly outside the realm of possibility.
The next episode continues the arc, but, more importantly, puts Hijikata in an awful outfit. Till next time.
