First Impressions: Meiji Tokyo Renka

Oh, hey, an anime involving time travel and seeing ghosts. This should be interesting.

Bunny sighted! Good bunny!

Meiji Tokyo Renka is based on a visual novel that came out for the PSP a few years back. There’s also a film adaptation that came out in 2016, but it’s unclear at this point whether or not the anime and film have anything to do with each other, besides having the same source material.

Basically, the anime involves a teenaged girl being sent back to Meiji era Tokyo and running into a bunch of historical figures. Also, she can talk to ghosts. This show is very silly. I don’t know if it intends to be, and it’s not a bad thing, by any means.

I can’t speak to how faithful this show is to its source material, but if you’re interested in a supernatural romantic anime that’s very silly, you can’t go far wrong with this one. At least, so far.
