First Impressions: To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts

Yay, new season of anime! May this one be completely devoid of pedophilia and hyper-sexualization, amen.

To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts is an anime based on the manga series of the same name. It follows Hank Henriette, the captain of a squad of mutated monster soldiers, called Incarnates, as he hunts down his former comrades, who are slowly losing their souls/sanity due to whatever ‘forbidden material’ was used to mutate them, following the brutal civil war that necessitated their creation in the first place.

And unfortunately, that description is more interesting than the show itself, at least so far. Don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t the worst show to kick off the season. It’s not terribly unique – it seems like your standard monster hunting/civil war recovery story so far – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The characters seem nice enough, if a little trope-y, and the action sequences are decent. The monster designs themselves are pretty cool, and the music’s nice. Overall, I was mostly just bored by this one, but there’s decent odds it’ll get better as it progresses.

Check it out if you’re, interested, but I’ll be giving this one a pass.
