Oh look, my first video game anime of the season. My hopes are not high.
So, I actually liked this one. The creators did a great job creating a newbie gamer who actually acts like a newb! And she’s a girl! Who isn’t ridiculously dumb or magically great at the game immediately! Also, her decisions make sense, from the point of view of a player who’s never played a game in her life, and just wants to have fun playing this one – yes, the character she creates is massively unbalanced, but she makes it work!
If you can’t tell, I like this character, and I didn’t automatically hate any of the other characters we’re introduced to in this episode either. The art and animation are pretty, and the game itself, while not exactly an original idea, seems like something I’d probably play in real life. This anime is really nice, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it.
