There’s magic! And witches! And a happy family with parents who love and support their child and aren’t dead by the end of the episode!
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is the anime adaptation of the light novel series of the same name, and you should definitely get people to donate to our Patreon so we can bully druid into reading and reviewing it, because y’all, if this first episode is anything to go by then this series is going to be a delight.
Elaina is sweet, idealistic and hardworking; she decides when she’s very young that she’s going to become a powerful witch and travel the world, and then she works her butt off to achieve that dream. Her first teacher, Fran, is slightly cruel but overall fairly interesting; the magic is bright and sparkly even when it’s been turned to seemingly lethal purpose, and the episode as a whole manages to capture the feeling of magic as something wonderous and deadly.
I’m looking forward to watching the rest of this season – and to looking up the light novels. You should check it out, too, when you have the chance.

As previously mentioned, we have a Patreon! Once we can actually start dedicating time to reviews, donating 1$ a month will get you early access to any that we put out, and give you voting rights on any polls, including the ones on which light novels druid has to read! Or if you can’t afford a monthly commitment, we’d also super appreciate it if you just tossed a couple bucks as a one time donation! We know things are pretty uuuuuuuuuuuuuuh bad right now, so we’re stupid grateful for any support you can offer us, even if it’s just telling sharing some of our first impressions around while we try to find our feet.
